Biotope no. 2 by Simon Faithful
In Spring 2023 Fat Fox was contacted by artist Simon Faithfull about a project he was creating for Sea Change at the Royal Docks, a three-week event bringing together international artists with leading UCL academics, inspired by research into sustainable responses to the climate emergency.
Biotopes is a series of artworks exploring our connection with the natural world by transforming artist Simon Faithfull’s own body into habitats for other species. The project features 3D-printed models of Faithfull’s head, redesigned as vessels or niches for wildlife.
For Biotope no. 2, Simon wanted mushrooms to sprout from the head over the course of the event. We worked with Simon to realise this project using colonised Blue Oyster Substrate.
